Home Schooling

Cornerstone Christian School has been supporting homeschoolers for over 15 years, and now serves over 50 families province-wide. Home schooling has been growing in popularity, and Cornerstone aids families in the success of this endeavor.

Testing: Canadian Achievement Tests (CAT Tests) are offered for Grades 3- 8. Testing will take place at Cornerstone Christian School in the early part of June and parents will have access to the results.

Teacher Consultations: If you wish to consult with the teacher of your child’s grade for some assistance, leave a message with that teacher or the school secretary and a time will be arranged as his or her schedule permits. There will be a limit of 1/2 hour per student, per quarter. Telephone consultations are also available and count as one consultation.

Sports: Registered students may participate in the following extracurricular sports: volleyball, basketball, soccer, track & field, badminton, and hockey. You will be consulted prior to the seasons, if you wish to be.

Field Trips: Registered students may participate in trips for their own age/grade. For all grades, a parent or guardian must attend. If you are interested in this option, let the home school coordinator know and she will give you details regarding each particular trip over the phone or via email.

School Photographs: Individual photographs are usually taken for registered homeschoolers in early fall. Please contact the homeschool coordinator if you would like more detailed information.

Auditing: Cornerstone is willing to host homeschool students auditing such courses as P.E., Choir and middle school science and math. A fee will apply, and for P.E. classes the gym strip will be required.

Curriculum Supplies: Homeschoolers can order from ABeka Book, Bob Jones University Press, or Christian Schools International through Cornerstone. There is a limited amount of Ministry of Education curriculum. Cornerstone offers homeschoolers a library-type system, in which most textbooks, teacher editions, and answer keys can be borrowed for the school year. The individual purchases consumable items. A selection of second-hand materials from miscellaneous distributors is also available.

Library Privileges: The library includes fiction and non-fiction novels, research material, magazines, and children’s books. The books may be borrowed for two weeks, and renewals can be made over the phone.
Please refer to the CCS Library page for available hours.

Home School Advisor: A home school coordinator who works out of her home is available year round to assist with questions. She has nearly 16 years of experience at her job and has also homeschooled her daughters for 12 years. If you would like to contact Doris Barker about any further details you can call her at (604) 850-5780, or email her at dorodb@shaw.ca
